The sun is setting to the west as I return east after spending less than 24 hours at home. Some people (my husband included), thought I was crazy for making the trek across the country on two consecutive days. I know I could have taught today’s class remotely and the hopped a plane from FortContinue reading “March 10 Day 732: Return to the East”

March 9 Day 731: Where Were You?
Are you aware that for me, this is the first day of the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Where were you two years ago today? I was teaching my first class of the pandemic. (March 9 Day 1: Where Were the Students?) It was a Monday and UW Chancellor Ana Mari Cauce called forContinue reading “March 9 Day 731: Where Were You?”
March 8 Day 730: A Truly Hybrid Conference
Congratulations to Fred Hoffman, Maria Provost, Jeanne Cimillo, and Stephen Locke for putting together the 53rd Southeastern International Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and Computing. It is the first truly hybrid conference I have attended. They went all in with technology, and have achieved what others only dream about. Let me explain. The airport was crowded.Continue reading “March 6 Day 728: Out and About”

She was fearless and lived life so fully. We were grateful to be included on some of her food adventures—happily waiting forContinue reading “March 3 Day 725: Tacoma Mourns”
March 2 Day 724: Gentle Nudges
Sometimes it feels like nagging. Working on a tight deadline but reliant on the input of others. I don’t want my deadline pressures to create stress on anyone else. So what’s a girl to do? Occasional gentle reminders that become more frequent as the deadline fast approaches. Imagine my chagrin, when I received a nudgeContinue reading “March 2 Day 724: Gentle Nudges”
March 1 Day 723: What’s Your Battery Charge Level?
What a difference 24 hours can make. Yesterday, to answer the title question, I wrote: Battery needs charging. I’m at the end of my winter quarter so I’m looking at a massive amount of grading. Teaching is draining when only half the students are present and the rest are black boxes on Zoom. I amContinue reading “March 1 Day 723: What’s Your Battery Charge Level?”
