November 20 Day 622: Movie Theater Popcorn

My husband and I went back to the local movie theater for the first time since December 20, 2019 when we saw StarWars: Rise of Skywalker.

Things have changed. The theater still has large reclining seats but there are frequent signs ‘Do not use your own seat wipes.’ Apparently they are worried about harming the finish on their furniture. And we no longer stand in a crowded line for popcorn and drinks. Instead concessions were preordered and delivered directly to our seats during the previews.

I love movie theater popcorn. It tastes different, dare I say better, in the theater. Maybe it’s the salt (we don’t add butter.) Or maybe it’s the excitement of a shared viewing experience with a stadium of other human beings that adds to the pleasure.

The movie that drew us out was Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Charming and funny. I laughed, I cried. I adored Egon’s 12-year old science geek granddaughter. A new but related take on the original story. Delightful cameos from the original cast. Definitely worth it.

Here’s to taking one more step closer to normal.
