June 17 Day 101: Drive By Celebration

To close out the academic year, the Math Club sponsored a “Drive-By” celebration. All math majors were invited. Faculty came out in force and made appropriate celebratory signs.

Students took the opportunity to drop off loaned books, to sign the Pi Mu Epsilon roll book, to deposit money raised for the Pi Day Celebration, and to pick-up their awards.

Everyone wore masks (and if they didn’t provide their own, we provided one for them—just like the Apple Store.) After signing the roll book, Pi Mu Epsilon inductees used hand sanitizer on their hands and the pen—so as not to unknowingly pass contagion to the next user.

People stopped by with family, roommates, partners, and (in phase 2) people from their circle of five friends. We might not have kept a full six feet apart but we were working hard to respect social distancing protocols. It filled my heart with joy to share a few moments with these wonderful people—faculty and students alike. Our mathematics community is strong. Congratulations again to all Math Majors of 2020. And we are eagerly awaiting the summer and fall math babies (all three of them!!!!!!)

Of course there were lots of pictures.

For anyone who did not pick up their award, please contact me and we’ll make a plan.
