October 24 Day 960: Still Waiting

I’m trying to get home. My flight has been delayed …and delayed…and delayed some more.

We are currently sitting on the tarmac as maintenance works to reset the avionics fan. We were supposed to have taken off more than 6 hours ago.

Rather than focusing on the negatives, let me inventory the good things about the day.

  • I got all my grading done. It was a slog and I had to sit near a power source to get grades recorded online, but it’s finished for now.
  • I got a $12 food voucher that I spent on pizza and water.
  • I got to take more mask usage data on the airplane. Interestingly, as I boarded I noted that 8 of the 16 people sitting in first class were wearing PPE. For the entire population 55 passengers wore masks, 89 passengers did not. So 61.8% exposed and 38.2% masked.
  • I promise those really were the numbers I counted. I did not fudge the data in any way to make them Fibonacci numbers.

The captain reports another 40-60 minutes but still fully expects to take off and return to Seattle.

Tomorrow is going to be rough. I have 10 (of 21) oral assessment interviews scheduled plus class. I’m not as prepared as I’d like to be for class. (If you’ve followed my journey on this blog, you know that I have a tendency to over prepare.) And I will have a sleep deficit.

I’m thinking it’s time to try sleeping now. Either they wake me up when we land or when they clear us off the plane because the crew timed out.

Fingers crossed for the first option.
