Like so many travelers in the world right now, our flight has been cancelled. I learned this when I checked the app before going to bed. There it was on the welcome screen in a colored box under the flight travel time CANCELLED.
I clicked on the link and it invited me to rebook my flight. I selected a morning flight for Sunday (not realizing there would be an additional fee. Not a booking fee but the difference between what I paid months ago and the current fare of the day.) I was then asked if I wanted to check in. I did, received boarding passes, and breathed a sigh of relief.
Until I returned to the Home Screen where the new flight times were showing but those dreaded words CANCELLED remained. Why would they let me rebook to a flight that they knew was cancelled? I panicked. And rebooked to a different flight.
Wouldn’t you know, the same thing happened again. And I was racking up considerable additional charges. I needed to talk to someone and see if I could fix my mistake.
I knew I was going to be on hold for a while, but I couldn’t get the local phone in my room to successfully make a call out. I went down to the front desk for help but after 30 minutes on hold in the lobby, I opted to use the Travel Pass on my mobile phone and make the call from the comfort of my own room.
One hour and 50 minutes later, I got to talk with an agent. She was very helpful. It must be a problem with the phone app because the new flight is not cancelled. And it appears that there will be no charge (thank goodness). In addition, I can submit receipts for reimbursement of the extra night of hotel.
So now, at 1:46 am I can rest easy. Mark and I will be taking the bus to Dublin tomorrow and staying near the airport. What would you do with one unplanned night in Dublin?
