I arrived in DC at 4:30 pm. No flight issues for me, thank goodness. There was plenty of time to meet up with another MAA Board member at the airport, grab a cab, tour the new HQ, enjoy empanadas for dinner, and run the MAA annual business meeting— virtually.
I must admit that I am so much more comfortable when I run my own technology. Today, I had to walk in and go with the flow. Webinar format? Sure I can do that. It’s not my favorite mode. I’ve only done it a few times, so I am still learning the quirks and features. I did my best to adapt. There were a few fumbles but it was OK.
Would I have preferred to see the beautiful smiling faces of the members that attended? Absolutely. Without a doubt. Instead I saw their names in the participants list and was pleased at how many I knew. It reminds me that I should plan another social hour because I do want to see those faces for real.
After finishing for the evening and crossing the street to the hotel, I looked back to see the MAA logo shining through the conference room window. That is where we were (and will be for the next two days of Board meetings). In the room to the right, you can see the icosahedron stained glass installed in the entry. It’s a beautiful space and I know it will serve MAA well.
