December 22 Day 289: Recreate to Celebrate

What a fun social “hour” hosted by the MAA Special Interest Group for Recreational Math (SIGMAA REC). I was there for more than three hours–chatting, playing, and meeting friends. I had an intimate conversation with a dear old friend, just the two of us. I had different small group conversations about math clubs, covid, and holidays—you know the usual.

It started by co-hosts introducing themselves and their activity. Then we took a “conference photo” at the podium before wandering off on our own and deciding our level of participation. You can see 27 participants in the snapshot above and I believe we achieved 35 simultaneous users.

It really felt like a celebration—so much so that I had a hard time leaving when it was over. I think the same is true for others. That must be why it went for so long.
