March 26 Day 18: Welcome to New Students Spring Quarter

One down and one to go. I managed to get my first class’s Canvas site prepared and published today with a welcoming message for my students.

It starts: “It’s Spring quarter. Flowers are blooming, rain is falling, and we are following Governor Inslee’s “Stay-at-Home” order.

Unlike last quarter when we unexpectedly went to online classes in week 10, we are starting anew with the expectation that the entire quarter will be delivered virtually.”

Then expectations and details you don’t need…

Closing with “There will be a lot to process and test and try.  I’m trying to find a balance between requiring material and allowing people to engage as their lives allow. It’s not going to be perfect (what is really?) But I think we can make it worthwhile and learn some math along the way.

So join me in our crazy, mathematical adventure.  I’ll be online early Tuesday to get technicalities sorted. Feel free to stop by and work on your technicalities too.  I look forward to working with you and building our virtual community. Until then,

Distantly yours,

Prof. Quinn”
