March 19 Day 11: Math Majors Class of 2020

A bittersweet virtual goodbye to the senior math majors. Our sixth and final day of capstone presentations went smoothly. The students dressed to impress and made me proud. I learned that in a Zoom conference, we can all turn our microphones on and clap to create real applause. The UWT Math community is strongly connected and it pains us to be kept apart. My hope is that everyone remains healthy and normalcy returns so that I  can congratulation them in person at a graduation ceremony in June. (No word on the plans for Commencement yet.)

In the meantime I have a high stack of capstone papers to read, grades to assign, and Spring classes to prepare (for a fully online experience.) Spring break is never a break. On the up side, my family is together again. There will be lots of educating happening in this house over the next few months. And neighbors who we have never met are finding connections and looking out for each other.  I am exhausted but hopeful.
