January 1 Day 299: and a Happy New Year

2020 was a year like no other. Sometimes it is hard to see the bright side when important activities are getting cancelled right and left. In the cover image, family members selected a Zoom background of a place they would like to visit. Mark and Anson picked locations from their hearts to which they would like to return (New Zealand glow worm caves and the Turkish coast respectively). Zach and I picked places that we were supposed to visit in 2020 (Galway with my mom and high school for his senior year). We all learned new skills—primarily but not exclusively related to technology. Things may never go back to the way they were but there is hope on the horizon.

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, today is the start of a new decade, January 1, 2021-December 31, 2030. No resolutions for me—that’s too much additional pressure. Instead, I plan to keep working on taking care of myself, my family, and my students to the best of my abilities. I will look for beauty in everyday things and celebrate successes both big and small.

I wish you a healthy and safe 2021.
