June 26 Day 840: Doubly Cancelled

I was optimistic when I awoke this morning. A quick walk to the airport and we were supposed to be off to Amsterdam—albeit delayed by a day.

The airport was crazy. The lines were long. And when trying to check our baggage we got an error message “too late to check bags for this flight.” So we were put in another line to learn that our flight had been cancelled. AGAIN.

We entered the very long line at Ticket Queries and waited. The airport WiFi, while free, did not maintain a connection long enough to rebook online. So I once again turned on a Travel Pass for my cellphone and went to work. The next available flight out was on Tuesday, two days from now! I grabbed it but hoped by talking to someone in person we might be able to do better. Suffice it to say, when offered a place to stay and some food vouchers three hours later, we abandoned our place in the rebooking queue and gladly accepted the offer.

So here we are again. In Dublin. Exhausted for no good reason except stress, lack of food, lack of water, and lack of progress. At least we have the entire day to explore the city tomorrow. I’d like to think of this as a bonus vacation. But really, we have places to go and people to see in Leiden. Trying to stay positive.
